Building Insight and Strategy

🧭 Coaching Interventions

A strengths-based approach to navigating ADHD with clarity, confidence, and care

At ADHD Life Guide, coaching is not about fixing what's broken — it's about uncovering what’s already within you.
We recognise that ADHD brains work differently — not less — and our coaching programme is designed to amplify your strengths while building the skills and systems needed to manage challenges.

This stage of the AIMS pathway introduces personalised ADHD life coaching, offering both practical strategies and deep insight into how your brain works — all within a compassionate, collaborative framework.

Strengths Based Approach to Coaching

🌿 Coaching Begins with Perspective

Most clients begin with the first phases of the FLOURISH framework, focusing on:

  • FOCUS – Gaining perspective and readiness
  • DISCOVER – Understanding symptoms with curiosity, not judgment

These early sessions are about getting up on the balcony, noticing the dance floor, and starting to make intentional moves that support attention, motivation, and emotional balance.

Discover your challenges and strategies to overcome them
Phase One

✨ FOCUS

Getting up on the balcony — learning to observe your ADHD from above

The first few coaching sessions use the FOCUS framework and book to help you:

  • Step back from autopilot and observe patterns
  • Identify the “ugly dances” of ADHD (e.g., procrastination, avoidance, impulsivity)
  • Strengthen your metacognitive awareness — noticing your mind in action
  • Start aligning action with intention

🛠️ Tools we use in this phase:

  • FOCUS: The Balcony View
  • Focus Flow ADHD Planner
  • Breathe Now mindfulness strategies
  • Safe Life Guide app for emotional tracking and reflection
Phase Two

🔍 DISCOVER

Understanding your unique ADHD profile, without shame or judgment

Next, we dive into the DISCOVER book — exploring the 18 core ADHD symptoms across life domains like relationships, work, home, leisure.

In these sessions, you’ll:

  • Identify which symptoms affect you most — and how
  • Explore real-life examples and patterns
  • Learn practical strategies tailored to your personal challenges
  • Monitoring progress using wellbeing tools like SWEMWBS

📚 Resources in this phase include:

  • DISCOVER: The Deep Dive
  • Habit Maker (via Safe Life Guide App)
  • Values-guided coaching using the HOPE framework
  • SWEMWBS for wellbeing monitoring, not just symptom tracking
Person First

  • Recognise that ADHD brings creativity, intensity, and big-hearted thinking
  • Never treat you as a diagnosis — we treat you as a whole person

📲 The Safe Life Guide App

🧪 Emotional Check-Ins

While coaching is not therapy, we do pay close attention to wellbeing and medication side effects, particularly in the early stages. In your first few sessions, Mon may:

  • Monitor for sleep, appetite, and energy shifts
  • Discuss how medication is affecting you
  • Use wellbeing check-ins like the Short Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (SWEMWBS)
This ensures that support is not only strategic, but also safe and grounded.

🔄 Flexible, Yet Structured

The first 6–8 sessions follow a structured path using FOCUS and DISCOVER, but after that, coaching becomes even more personalised. You may choose to:

  • Deepen emotion regulation
  • Rebuild relationships
  • Strengthen daily routines
  • Work toward long-term goals using the full FLOURISH framework

⏳ When Procrastination or Impulsivity Is the Problem

For many clients, procrastination becomes a key focus area. When this happens, we bring in the Act Now and Not Now books, which:

  • Use powerful metaphors like the jungle and the river to explain avoidance
  • Explore types of delay (e.g., perfectionism, fear of failure, emotional overload)
  • Provide small, practical steps to build momentum and regain control

📚 Additional tools used:

  • Act Now: Jungle of Procrastination
  • Not Now: River of Impulsivity

🌟 Why Coaching?

Because ADHD is not just a diagnosis — it’s a way your brain moves through the world.
And with the right strategies, tools, and self-understanding, that movement can become more aligned, empowered, and free.

Do you have

Any Questions

We know that starting ADHD coaching can feel unfamiliar. Our goal is to walk beside you — through self-discovery, trial and error, small wins, and bigger breakthroughs — so that whatever path you take, it feels purposeful, supported, and your own.

A: Coaching focuses on building self-awareness, structure, and strategies for everyday life with ADHD. It’s action-oriented and forward-looking. While therapy may explore deeper emotional issues or trauma, coaching helps you work with your ADHD wiring to create meaningful change in the present.
A: Most people begin with the FOCUS and DISCOVER programmes. You’ll learn how to step back and observe your ADHD patterns with greater clarity, and then explore which symptoms are showing up most in your daily life. We’ll begin building strategies together that reflect how your brain works best.
A: No — we take a whole-person approach. We’ll talk about your values, goals, routines, relationships, and wellbeing. ADHD is part of the picture, but not the whole story. Coaching is about aligning your life with what matters to you.
A: Not at all. Coaching works well both with and without medication. If you are on medication, we’ll also keep an eye on how it’s going and monitor for side effects during the first few sessions.
A: Absolutely. While the early sessions follow a structured format (FOCUS and DISCOVER), coaching becomes more personalised as we progress. Whether you're struggling with procrastination, relationships, emotion regulation, or routines, we’ll adapt together.
A: We use a combination of books (FOCUS, DISCOVER, Breathe Now, Act Now, Not Now), the Safe Life Guide app for daily tracking and safety planning, mindfulness resources from Breathe Now, and values-based coaching tools like HOPE and HABIT.
A: Yes. Coaching works beautifully alongside other supports. We collaborate with your care team where appropriate, and our approach complements therapy, medical treatment, and other wellbeing practices.
